What changes the price for a Subaru Legacy

  • Subaru EyeSight on the Legacy. Stereo cameras mounted at the top of the windshield is part of the system, and Subaru’s position statement requires the stereo camera inspection and adjustment after every windshield replacement. Subaru made EyeSight standard across the Outback, Legacy, Forester and Ascent lines for the 2019 model year, so a recent Legacy very likely has it.
  • Genuine glass. On a Legacy this matters: Subaru says only its genuine windshield is certified to work with EyeSight and that other glass may prevent correct calibration; the price gap is covered in our OEM vs. aftermarket comparison.
  • Age of the car. Older Legacy models (1997–2006) average $263 in our table against $439 for 2017–2025.
  • Calibration cost. On a Legacy with a camera, recalibration is billed separately from the glass; see what ADAS recalibration really costs.

Subaru Legacy: repair or replace?

A chip smaller than a quarter or a crack shorter than about three inches can usually be repaired — faster and far cheaper than a full replacement. Replacement is the safer choice when the damage is longer than a dollar bill, sits in the driver’s line of sight, reaches the edge of the glass (which weakens the whole windshield), or goes through both layers. A qualified shop can confirm which option your Subaru Legacy qualifies for.

Does insurance cover a Subaru Legacy windshield?

Whether insurance covers your Subaru Legacy windshield depends on your comprehensive coverage and deductible. A few states require insurers to waive the glass deductible entirely, and some insurers waive it for small chip repairs. See our guides to states with zero deductible for comprehensive glass claims and states with glass endorsement coverage to check the rules in your state.
